in this ocation i think u should have watched another episode. or like i think the two episodes you watched are not matching. for example, i think it would be better if u watched 435-436 togeather (cliffhunger luffy covered in venom) and 437-438 togeather (another cliff huger). like the first par is the end of the 4th floor and the second par the first eps of 5th floor.

Magellan is crazy op but it’s also a terrible matchup for Luffy. Pretty much everything in Luffy’s bag is based on physical contact. Magellan even counters the gears: Gear 2 makes Luffy’s blood circulate faster which means the poison inside him will also spread faster. Gear 3 will just increase the surface area of Luffy’s attack, making him touch even more poison.

Cannon you are partly right that one of the reason Impel Down gets a lot of love is because it's part of the same saga that starts with Sabaody and is right before Marineford. However by itself it's still a great arc, much better in the manga because it doesn't have all these jokes stretched out to make the episode longer. They go quick, aren't repeated so they don't get stale but more importantly the arc is darker in the manga so it helps keeps things light. Don't let the Toei stretch everything out method ruin this arc for you. I think at the end you'll look back at this arc with a lot of love like the rest of us do. Even though it's right before MF, it's still good enough that it shines brightly next to the peak of peak.

I love Mr. 3 and Buggy side quest on trying to escape. Buggy and Bon Clay are one of my top favorite side characters and Mr. 3 went into characters I really like after this arc. Mostly bc he’s hilarious here😭😂😂 I love that Bon Clay cherishes the friendship him and Luffy have, to the point he do anything to save him🩷🩷

At that point Luffy wasn’t fighting to “win” he was just trying to get past Magellan no matter what happened to him. He kept missing his punches simply because his body was failing and poison messed up his balance, vision, and coordination. Luffy was moving on pure desperation and willpower, there’s nothing more to it I think

I personally enjoy the comedic relief of Mr 3 and Buggy in Impel down but I get that it's not for everyone haha. Keep in mind that Impel Down is much darker in the manga and Toei really pushed a lot of the funny stuff in the anime.

As you could see with luffy missing all his attacks at the end of the fight, the poison was messing up his senses, including his sight so that’s what was causing him to miss. At the end Luffy was desperate and moving out of sheer will, hence he did something as reckless and futile as jumping head on against Magellan’s hydra.
