As annoying as Hannibal is, I loved his speech in this episode. During this show you get so caught up in cheering for Luffy because we always see him as the good guy. But that speech about how although Luffy won't pay the consequences of freeing these prisoners, civilians will, was a crazy perspective shift. Then Luffy essentially replying with “who cares i'm a pirate anyways and I'm just tryna save my brother” reminds you that it’s true, he’s not a hero/good guy and he never claimed to be either. Not to say this makes him a bad person, but it reminds you he CAN do bad things 😭 Ultimately there’s a lot more nuance to the situation and nobody really has a moral high ground cuz impel down is literally a hellhole where prisoners are cruelly tortured, but it was still such a great (and underrated) moment imo and had me questing my support for my glorious king 🫂

Its cool how oda establishes blackbeard as a signifigant ideological rival to luffy with their shared opinion on what it means to be a true pirate and how dreams are important to both of them like we saw with teach’s speech in jaya, just different means of achieving those dreams. I think this is the biggest reason why luffy is so locked in when he comes face to face with certain people like blackbeard who he can tell are serious threats and rivals that he will have to eventually defeat in his journey to find the one piece.

Just to build on this, early pistols just used a metal tube. Then rifling was invented, where spiral grooves were added to the inside of a gun barrel to put spin on the bullet which improves accuracy, like putting spin on a football. So Luffy's pistol is a straight punch, but whenever he is going to do rifle you see him twist up his arm to put spin on his punch.

Magellan without diarrhea is no joke man and I love that he didn't ask why Blackbeard is here. He knows he's not supposed to be here, and under these circumstances, he takes the responsibility to just execute a Warlord in one second and catch the prisoners to protect the people, just a few hours before the war. What a goat. And to Hannyabal's point, he's right. What Luffy my king did in this arc was very selfish, putting Boa in handcuffs to sneak in while he knew she was traumatized by her past, causing a massive breakout in the worst prison. It’s interesting that the only villain Luffy ever goes completely quiet around is Blackbeard. With everyone else he’s his usual loud and chaotic self, but with BB he’s locked in and barely says a word. And Blackbeard is also the only villain who never underestimated Luffy or made fun of him. Their dynamic is really unique, I hope we get a lot more of it in the future
