I hadn't seen this season since first watching it, i'd always watch a couple of clips (the neverending story part is very iconic haha), but yeah the comedic moments ran on way too long especially in moments that were meant to be serious which wouldn't happen in season 1 or even 2 tbh. Obviously, with the 4th of july theme plus we're getting deeper into the "fun, colourful times" of the 80's it makes sense for a tone shift, but upon a rewatch, season 1 is probably my favourite so far. El and Billy carried the season for me too. Like the comments have said you guys will defo like season 4 a lot more i'm excited!! :)

I am sorry, but the whole time watching I kept thinking that This is the most stereotypical American episode of the whole show, like they were playing into stereotypes. Malls, 4th of July, fireworks, evil Russian, monsters, car racing and car crashes, guns and shooting (esp that Nancy scene, she should have aimed for tires), main character's long stares instead of running inside to be safe, police and back up arriving when it is not needed anymore, moving out scenes with memory reminiscing, goofy news segment to wrap it up. Like Dustin and Suzie singing was cute, but we needed that code faster. If Hop and Joyce were faster with the code and switching off the machine, Billy's death, the whole stopping monster stuff would have been avoided. A lot of cliche scenes. Now I remember why I stopped watching after this season, I hated that they killed Hopper just for the drama. Hopefully S4 is better. Murrey speaks really good Russian, but nobody would have believed he was a new addition to Russian troops with that accent. W Steve with that save stopping the car

Like in my opinion, season 3 was the same as season 2 but with a different font. They both had the mind flayer as a main foe(shadow in ss2, fleshy in ss3), someone important was controlled by the Mindflayer (Will in ss2, Billy in ss3), they all had to meet up towards the end of the each season, and had to close a gate to cut off the hivemind (hopper & el in ss2, hopper & joyce in ss3). The details were different but the plot was the same. Nonetheless, ya'lls reaction to season 4 is gonna be so epic, I'm literally gonna cry

Carter is very valid on his ultimate hatred for this season. Worst season in tv history. Well that's jokes but this season was my favorite even still in 2022 but I guess I've grown old and the useless dumb stuff, dumb jokes and pointless conversations really don't hit for me. Season 1 is objectively the best but it's way too moody for me or something like that. Season 2 is my favorite so far because I find it to be just the right bit dark, emotional and fun.

First time i watched 3rd season i enjoyed it a lot, probably more than 2nd season but less than 1st. Maybe part of the reason is that as a russian its cool to have some characters speak your language, this time it was kind of a chore watching this season, its too much over the place, they should ve focused nore on billy's arc and less on goofy parts.

This isn’t a spoiler please read Geks. The mind flayer isn’t dead and you’re not supposed to think it is (although it could’ve been a bit more clear). The flesh monster that resembles the mind flayer isn’t the actual mind flayer, it’s a body that’s controlled by the mind flayer. The real mind flayer is made of smoke and never left the upside down. Don’t forget we saw the mind flayer still in the upside down at the end of season 2. The bit of it that was in Will was never the full body. Even tho that part was stuck in the real world the actual body of the mind flayer was still in the upside down. It never left. Therefore when they closed the gate in season 3, the mind flayer doesn’t die, it just loses its connection to the flesh monster body it was controlling. Please make sure the couch knows this so there isn’t any confusion on the current state of the mind flayer

I think some of the downs that Carter is talking about wouldn't have been that big of a deal if you've seen the show while it was coming out weekly. There was 2 years between S2 and S3, so them being grown up, and the tone shift due to that probably felt more natural in the weekly watch, instead of a binge watch.

The narratives felt so tacky and i can usually ignore them but now that my brain is no longer complete mush it became more difficult. tbh i totally get carter’s feelings…season 3 used to be my absolute favorite when it first came out (i was also super young), but rewatching it now with you guys made me realize it’s not as strong as the other seasons. yes, it tackles darker themes, but one of the biggest issues is how much it leans on comedic moments and a few pretty pointless subplots (looking at you, terminator dude). when the show focuses on the relationships between characters, that’s when it really shines! hopper with eleven or joyce, billy and his mom, even steve and robin during their deep convos. it’s a shame they didn’t center that as much this season, because they do it so well, and the finale really drives that home. i still full-on sobbed during hop’s speech even though i already knew what was coming :(
