None of the cover stories are non canon, all of it is canon, their continuity is confirmed in the main manga down the line. There are cover pages of the manga that have non canon illustrations that are just random art by oda of his own choosing and from reader’s requests but those aren’t ‘cover stories’ they are just cover ‘pages’, which oda differentiates with clear titles whenever he does either of the 2 types of chapter covers.

Before every chapter of the manga there is a one page panel for some side story that isnt whats happening with the main plot, it can be a story about some side character from a previous arc like some adventure buggy is on or in this case, what the crew is up to while luffy does his thing, so these episodes are fleshing out full side stories from like single page or single panel images. so some of the writing is technically noncanon but its fine.

BTW there’s literally a single cover page in chapter 800 something where it got brought up in the main manga chapter pages in chapter 1060+ and directly caused a very big event in chapter 1125+. The event cause would have just been conveyed only through word of mouth if Oda hadn’t shown us which he did through the cover story, including context of what led up to that moment in cover pages just prior to it. That’s just one example and there’s some not so yet to be relevant that’ll likely be impactful later on. So yes at some point you guys should read/watch all of the cover stories, preferably starting sooner than later. I think right now there’s around 30 cover series and where you’re at in the story you can read 10, which have never been animated. Don’t ask me why toei haven’t animated most of them they absolutely should and it’s great easy content for them.

I see cover stories as being there to build the story that is occurring in the background. It's like, cover stories are showing that the story doesn't only happen to the Straw Hats/Luffy. There's a whole range of characters out there, each with complex storylines that continue even after Luffy has encountered them. It is all connected and will wrap back around into the main story, at some point.

People wanna use one pace for certain parts of the story to cut out minutes per episode of pure anime-only padding (that amounts to dozens of hours over the show, it’s A LOT) that’s purpose is purely to make the episode reach the runtime without catching up to the manga. In essence, using one pace is comparable to skipping filler arcs in terms of getting the pure experience of the story. Definitely NOT skipping canon content such as this, and definitely not skipping content just because it’s bad. If a part of the manga is bad, then that’s part of the story and shouldn’t be skipped IMO

There's already been some good explanations for the cover stories (goated comments👑), but yeah! The cover stories allow for Oda to show what past characters have been up to without needing to do it in a full chapter per say. Without including ones with spoilers or hints towards what characters might show up in the future, some examples are; Koby and Helmeppo training with Garp, Hachi saving Camie. Idk if anyone ever mentioned but there's also something supervised by Oda called Vivre card. Basically a data collection of characters' blood type, devil fruit, allegiance etc, think there are some other random facts on there too. Just some fun stuff. Also confirmed by Oda, Luffy showers only once a week. FUTURE PIRATE KING IS STINKY LMAOOOO

Cover stories are front pages of manga chapters that oda uses to fit in extra official cannon content. They’re new stories that are absolutely canon and affect the main one piece content you watch. There was a cover story for Hatchi, for example, which showed how he got from navy captivity in Arlong park, to meeting camie & papagu to forming his Takoyaki business as well as fighting off those fishman macro pirates that were with Duval. If you had read the cover stories during the parts of the main story they were released in, you would have known about camie, papagu and hatchi’s new story by the start of the water 7 arc. There’s also cover stories that explain what happened to Enel, Baroque works and CP9 after their respective defeats, as well as other villains, just like you guys have been asking for in the past lol. They are definitely official and will impact the story lol, not sure why Jack said otherwise, Toei just hasn’t animated most them for whatever reason. The Garp, Koby & helmmeppo episodes back in the early days were also adaptions of a cover story and you saw how informative those were. So yes definitely read/react/watch slideshow versions of them sooner than later pls🙏

The best way to describe cover stories is that every week with his chapter release oda gets to have a cover which he will do series of and turn them into actual stories despite being only 1 page sized panel, generally with some sort of description of what's happening. Hence why these episodes have awful pacing, there isn't really much that they get to go off of and they tip toe around not putting too much non cannon stuff in them

Based off Shank’s conversation with Whitebeard, it’s heavily implied that Shanks believed in Luffy’s potential so much that he lost his arm on purpose. Why? Cover Stories are just that, Stories told by the covers of each chapter, they are told separate from the main manga storyline but are cannon and tie directly into future events in many situations. For example these stories of where the straw hats landed, they were cover stories but are incredibly relevant to the greater narrative so they shouldnt be ignored Theres also the incredibly important Enel Cover Story, a story about what happened to CP9 after Water 7, and a whole series covering Ace's search for Blackbeard, which culminated in their showdown in the proper Manga

The cover stories are 100% part of the official story. Anime-onlys are missing out on important canon info bc they weren’t animated. Those episodes where Coby is training with Garp—those were cover stories. Did you like seeing what he was up to, or would you rather he just showed up in Water 7 with no context for why he's suddenly stronger and working under Garp? I don't know if you remember, but you guys were really confused when Jango (the hypnosis guy from Syrup Village) showed up in Alabasta as a Marine. That was explained in the cover stories. How Hachi ends up with Camie, what happened to Arlong, what the former Baroque Works agents are currently up to, and where Enel goes after flying off in his airship are all in the cover stories. I'm ranting, but I seriously can't stress enough that you should be reading the cover stories!!🙏

Aaaand I'm getting that impression again, the same one I had in Skypiea; that Robin, of all Strawhats except Luffy, gives the most protagonist vibes. Especially in this episode, it really felt like she was the mc of another completely different anime, with a different vibe and story, and it fit her. I freaking love her solo adventures. They kinda give Ghibli vibes in some way.

The cover stories are canon, as far as I know, back in the early anime, they adapted some (Buggy's) but, I don't know if this is confirmed, since it didn't do well in viewership since the strawhats didn't appear they stopped doing it. Although I think they adapted one recently.

Cover stories continue the story of alot of side characters and are canon and therefore worth checking out, they are on the first page of a chapter where it tells u the number and name of the chapter u are about to read. there should be videos compiling them or sum. Hope the comments make it clearer since its not something every manga comes with 🙏

Every chapter of One Piece starts with a special illustration. Sometimes, they're just cool drawings of the characters in unique circumstances, and sometimes it's a full-on storyline. In the case of these episodes, Oda dedicated a few covers to each straw hat to show where they ended up. Toei decided to adapt those and fill in the blanks.

Cover Stories are at the beginning of each chapter they have 1 page dedicated to a small thing outside of what is going on. Some are just fun ideas that people request Oda to make and some are legitimate canon story events which are full episodic series that can last 50+ chapters. But it keeps it very contained. Imagine if every Anime episode there was a quick 1 minute short of something else going on in the world.
