I forgot about this episode. I love the dance between Stark and Fern. I grew up with Harry Potter. I got into anime more in fifth grade. Inuyasha was my first anime and Fushigi Yugi was my first manga. Then I got into Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, and watched and read a bunch of slice of life. I got back into anime again after college and then helping care for my grandma after watching you guys react to Haikyuu.

The anime haters talking about showing anime to their kids :') I was introduced to anime by my dad, he used to have night shifts when I was a kid so we watched Dragon Ball and a few other older anime that was on TV 🥹 There is a whole genre for kids, it's called "Kodomo" (literally means kid lol) or Pokemon and Digimon are also good introductions for young kids.

My "grow up with the show/characters" thing was Harry Potter. Aging myself a bit here, (33), but read the books when they came out. When the first movie came out, I was 9, so pretty close to what Harry and crew were supposed to be. So I grew up watching those movies while the actors were growing up playing the characters.

That dancing scene was animated so well. Incredible use of rotoscoping. The fact that even dances are given that kind of time and detail does a great job of making all of these different moments feel like distinct parts of their journey. Same with dealing with the flower curse. Those two halves of this episode could have been multi-episode arcs on other shows, but they managed to fit them in one episode and both felt satisfying and not like a filler episode. MadHouse has been a great studio for this. Not many have projects like this and HxH under their belts.

To continue the romance suggestions: Kaguya-sama is a great romcom, easy watch, really funny. Blue Box could be a good one for them, romance with sports. Horimiya is another good romance. I saw someone suggest Fruits Basket and I'm pleasantly surprised (not a lot of people suggest it and it hurts my soul since it's my personal favorite and one of the first mangas I read many, many years ago xD) that one is more emotional though, but a classic. My favorite romance right now is The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, sweetest story I have read in a while. Its adorable in romance, friendships and family support. And I personally wouldn't suggest The Apothecary Diaries as a romance, it has some romance in it but that is not the main point in the plot.

Rewatching the show with you guys I noticed an odd thing back when Stark showed up to save Graf Granat. Graf said that "for a moment I thought my son had returned from the grave" or something like that. It just seems like too much to be a coincidence that Stark gets confused for nobility twice in such a short time. It's explained here to be the Orden's families connection to the Klee region, but I still feel like it is something more. I don't know what I'm trying to predict it develops into, but I'm going to feel like I caught something secret if it does come up again in season 2.

A romance show for the Geks would be SO fun! Kaguya-sama is great, but I worry the number of seasons and amount of will-they won’t-they might put you guys off. Horimiya is actually a great one because it’s just one season and moves at a great pace. Fragrant Flower is fantastic and very relevant with it being a recent seasonal, plus I think you guys would enjoy it being from the boy’s perspective. Blue Box is fun because you guys love sports! And Apothecary Diaries ultimate mention because it’s one of the best anime out there right now regardless of the romance subplot, you guys would love the mystery and politics!

This episode was a good example of romance done well. Romance is good as a subtle sideplot, when it's unclear whether it's even there at first, but when it's the main focus in a show it tends to become redundant and too tropy imo.

I love how subtle the romance is between Fern and Stark (reminds of Pride and Prejudice 2005 ver. ) like her looking at her hand after he held it, the little smiles they have dancing with each other. Fern doesn't overly blush and Stark doesn't sexualise her compared to other romances i've seen it's so well done. Also the outro discussion reminded me of the baby that's been watching one piece everyday since birth he's on episode 640 😭😂

Yeah, you guys definitely need to watch a romance anime after this. Kaguya Sama Love is War has a great balance of romance and comedy Horimiya moves quickly without missing a beat, delivering all the great moments you want to see. Bunny Girl Senpai sounds trashy, but it actually has one of the best romance subplots I've seen, coupled with a great supernatural mystery. You could also go for movies like Weathering With You (same people who made Your Name) or I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (which is not at all what it sounds like lol)

Probably not the right place to suggest this but you guys are clearly craving romance (but most likely only if it’s more of a sideplot?) so I would recommend the kdrama A Time Called You!
