I honestly understand where Sherwin is coming from. It's painful for someone when they're so focused on an ex for such a long time. Or even just someone who they deeply cared for who just isn't in their life anymore. So he has a great point. However, we, the readers, know it's not that simple for anyone but ESPECIALLY Sulvain who has loved and lost not once (Udaya) but TWICE (Raziol) and who's basically immortal. And they're just 2 people we know of. Who knows how many people Sulvain has lost, whether they were lovers or friends or just acquaintances. To say it's complicated is an understatement. And this begs the question: How much does Sherwin know about Sulvain? But MY biggest question is this: How in the world did Sulvain enroll in classes? Does he have a fake ID? What about his transcript?? His personal statement??? I'm so curious lmao 🤣

I was thinking about that. Would he take Latin and French as his foreign language requirements? He would almost have to relearn French since it has changed over the centuries. Or he was studying physiology of humans and animals....would be persue a medical degree? Does he use modern ASL to communicate? Has his physiological needs changed since he had to "sleep" for 80 years after being so severely injured with Hargrave? Or is he back to not eating/not sleeping. How does he navigate not aging in the modern world and not go unnoticed??

I can imagine Sherwin is trying to be a good friend....tough love and all. It has been another 90 ish years since Sulvain and Raziol saw one another at the masquerade and 200 years since they were a couple. But considering this was his first (am presumably only) serious relationship since Udaya, how could he ever get over Raziol? I'm curious, as everyone is, how much Sherwin knows. Is he a Magoi as well or just a friend from college? Does he understand the depth of trauma Sulvain has endured up to this point? While Sherwin sees the futility of longing for someone he sees as gone, it's not up to him when Sulvain's grief eases (if ever). As we all know, Sulvain seems to have unraveled himself with Raziol that was new and different than his relationship with Udaya. if he hasn't found another person that touched him in quite that way since, it is understandable that his grief seems unending. Shoot, even if he found another, he would always grieve Raz. The way he left Raziol, against his will, in such a violent manner....believing Raz was severely injured or dead for about 24 hours, only to get him back (as a vampire!!) for such a small window of time.....damn it hurts just remembering it. 😭 No wonder he's been grieving for centuries.

So, either Sherwin is very old and is fully aware of everything or Sulvain is pretending to be much younger than he actually is. Personally I'm guessing the latter, since I doubt he'd have dropped the "I'll leave lecturing you to your professors," comment if he knew that Sulvain's full knowledge and experience could put that entire university's faculty combined to shame. Rather I'd wager that Sulvain's cover story is that Raz was an ex of his, maybe he died (which I severely doubt), maybe he disappeared, maybe they broke up, in which case trying to get Sulvain out of this funk would be perfectly acceptable bro behavior, dare I say Brohavior.
