Becoming Happy – Issue 17 When I started this journey, I found that I used anger for motivation against people or things that wronged me or my career. This wasn’t my true authentic self, and I wasn’t happy. The anger became a habit and ate away at me. From the beginning of my career, I got caught in the trap of focusing on productivity and performance, even to the detriment of my emotional and physical well-being, and thought I would eventually become successful, and therefore happier. For a while also I thought that obtaining material possessions would help self esteem and would enrich my life and make me happier. It never happened. Happiness is not the end result of success. Happiness, however, is not about lying to myself, or neglecting the negative, but about adjusting my brain so that I can always see the ways to rise above my circumstances. And this again created by the positive feedback loop of gratitude. It also helps me notice more possibilities for personal and professional growth. If I was being negative, I would find fault with things and wouldn’t be able to see or seize these opportunities. Self-love with diet, exercise, relaxation, meditation are also a common themes to get where my physical body or condition will not get in the way of living the life I want. Other things I need to do help: 1. Build more social connections 2. Avoid comparing myself with others 3. Avoid overthinking. 4. Focus my energy on things I can control and let go of things I can’t A quote I saw recently: Happiness is the new rich Health is the new wealth Kindness is the new cool.
