Malevolent Planet Unity 2D Teaser Screenshots + Early GIF
🕑 Added 2022-02-01 10:46:11 +0000 UTCHey! I didn't mention this in any Public posts so far because it's a pretty new idea that's still in the works. While developing content for Melissa's NSFW Waterfall Encounter, I realized that I'm a little burnt out on my current JavaScript codebase for the game. That happened because it's pretty difficult to maintain such a vast codebase by myself and when bugs show up my creativity can plummet knowing that there's a pretty important issue right now that negatively affects players' interaction with the game.
So here's what I thought. An alternative version of the game that's played similarly to Third Crisis and other top-down RPGM-like games.
More details:
- It's developed in Unity, meaning that it supports all platforms the text game is playable on. It'll also be playable on itch.
- It uses a 3/4 topdown view like Among Us.
- It can be played via keyboard and/or mouse input (including mouse driven movement).
- It fills in the gaps from the text game, by starting from Emma's adventures in the International Space Academy. The demo will end with her departure into space.
- It will feature VN-like scenes, including NSFW ones and it'll provide you with choices along the way.
To not disappoint any fans of the version we have right now, I'll be considering merging the two versions into one. It is technically possible, because the Unity WebGL version needs to run in the browser, but it'll need some work because it needs to run in a local/online server instance.
I hope this news will not disappoint anybody and rest assured that I'm not giving up on the text version, I'm just complementing the universe of Malevolent Planet with a fresh perspective that may help me reduce burnout over time.
I'll be coming back with more details about the release of this version, but I can tell you that when it's ready, it will release early to All Patrons inside a Patreon Poll post where I'll ask Patrons to vote on whether this new idea is promising and can actually add to their enjoyment.
Credits to: bearcore, Lead Dev and Animator of Third Crisis for providing me with a ton of useful resources that drastically improved the development speed of the unity version's groundwork.
PSA: The public build of the latest version (bugfix release) will be published around Friday.
Here's a GIF from some of the stuff I've built so far:

If it keeps you engaged & excited - and gives you something fun to do when you need to step away from one version for a while - by all means, have at it! The concept sounds good as described, and of course, anytime anyone has contact with bearcore, the world is bound to get a little better for it.
