Malevolent Planet 2D - Definitive Chibi Style
🕑 Added 2022-09-21 13:50:22 +0000 UTCHey! As mentioned in the previous post, I planned a poll for today regarding the definitive character sprite for the 2D game.
I'll most likely go with the new one, because it's easier to animate this style walking around. The old one has a crab-like movement when it moves. Clothes will have to be drawn for the definitive character sprite, meaning that this is the best time to make this change before the naked body becomes independent of the clothes images (basically, there'll always be a naked chibi covered by the currently worn clothes instead of one image with the chibi already clothed).
However, I'd still like to know whether you like the new one more than the old one.
The options are:
- New. For the style marked with NEW.
- Old. For the currently existing style.
The below picture should be obvious enough.

Thank you for voicing out your opinion! Those are good points and I'm trying to keep them in mind for the redesign. Part of why things might look a bit different/off compared to the old one, is the fact that the old one wasn't very intuitive to animate and considering we'll have clothes above the chibi that will have to match the chibi identically, they also need to be animated when the chibi moves to align each other perfectly. So basically it's about making things a bit more practical when it comes to movement and drawing animation sprites for all the characters that'll exist in the game.

The proportions. Specifically the fullness of the bodies. I'm not really a fan of how much the limbs on the new models look like sticks rather than appendages with hands and feet. That said, the female face/head on the new model is better than the older one. I think the male head on the old model is better though. New one looks too round which just makes me think they have major baby face.

Glad to hear it :) Development would be easier with the new style but using some opinions I can tweak the new ones a bit if it'll be possible.

The old style overall is more appealing, but I like the hair on the new style more.
