august sketchbook tour! + some artists I love

Here is your August sketchbook tour~ It's not too much, but honestly I drew more than I thought I had which is exciting. :D I talked about this in my paint with me video, but i've been a bit bored with my art lately, so I'm slowly trying to break out of my comfort zones and figure out what it is that I'm really drawn to in others' work. Lately I've been enamored with the work of Jean Wei β I wrote a little bit about it in my sketchbook, but the range in her work is so impressive to me, while it still remains stylistically coherent. I love how she plays with composition and color, and even though her colors are usually pretty flat, her pieces convey a lot of depth, which I find super cool and intriguing. I also love how she draws people!! I also love Sophie McPike's work, and how she messes with proportions and, again, color in really fun, fluid and exciting ways. Her work always looks like it's blooming, which is an incredible feeling to invoke. And another artist I love is Matt Forsythe; his stuff is SO MAGICAL and mysterious and the textures are so delicious *u* The softness of his lines yet the clarity and contrast in his stuff is so. INCREDIBLE I LOVE ART
Being specific about what I want out of my work I find is useful for figuring out how to move forward β I want more whimsy, I want to play around with shapes and proportions more, I want to use colors that make me a bit uncomfy, and I want to lean more into focusing on feeling and gesture rather than precise anatomy or postures. I'm thinking about participating in a drawing challenge in September, so we'll see if that goes over well!!
I hope that y'all are doing alright!! I'm just binging The Magnus Archives and trying to get my head on straight as we move into yet another month. Once again, I'm eternally grateful for y'all's patience and support as I'm sort of going Through It on both a personal and professional scale. You're incredible!!! Love ya so xx
