Thx for the chapter

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

I thought each ladder rung was considered a step. Seem to remember reading this during the Void Star phase. So someone with 3 steps towards heaven is a 3 step autarch? Now that I type it i feel like I'm making it up

Matthew Hay

You are right, it seems like failing your doa defense means death unless you can become an Earth Immortal.

Matthew Hay

I know we haven't heard of a Half-Step Autarch, but did Iz say it wasn't possible? Have to back and check... I feel like TFD likes to keep things open-ended until we get nearer to it from Zac's perspective. So if it were possible, we probably wouldn't find out until Zac's a monarch.

Lex Luther S

I don't doubt there's hegemons and monarchs that do that, but I doubt it's a high number. Reaching hegemony marks you as a talent even by multiverse heartlands standards and I feel most hegemons hold a degree of respect for anyone that makes it far enough into the E grade to even attempt hegemony let alone monarchs. Besides, it's important to note that one only has 3 chances to form a core. Fail that 3rd attempt, and your path is at its end. Besides, unlike the issue half-step hegemony poses, with its defective core, a half-step monarch actually has a chance at forming an inner world. Given that they're forming a proto space and solidifying their foundations before the breakthrough. After all, I doubt one survives failing to form an inner world and even if they did they'd be crippled given their core would be gone. As for Autarchs, there is no half-step Autarch. Either form your latter to heaven or die. Or in cases of having a supremacy by your side, they'll hold back the heavens while you form the chains and become an earth immortal. But Iz has stated not a single one has reached supremacy as the constant tribulations usually kill them off.

I don’t expect him to “make a move” on Kator until after Ultom starts. The real question is whether Kator makes a move on Jake once the Foreign Gods are summoned. Annnnd…I don’t think Kator’s gonna. WAY too much to be gained by continuing the ridealong.

Jeff McCulley

Zac, Ogras, Emily, Galau and Kator. Fascinating. The people Zach has the strongest karmic links to? Two who went through the Tower of Eternity with him, (Ogras and Galau), his first Disciple (Emily), and the guy he has a literal Link to at the moment (Kator). I mean, it should have been a hint when Zac ran into Galau and Average after so many years. Annnnnnd…Joanna, Catheya and Vilari *aren’t* present. Just as fascinating. Next tier of karma connection?

"Half-step monarchs", but I'm not sure they're "Half-step Autarchs". We do know for a fact about Earthly Immortals. Which is a different kind and weaker version of Autarchs. Which brings up an interesting point. My theory is Zac will maintain both life and death sides through Monarchy. One side will make the "bridge to heaven" and the other will become one of these "Earthly Immortals" which are Autarchs of the previous Era. (They can both become a "True Supremacy" though. And this combined with the connections to the previous Era stuff Zac constantly connects to through his path gives me the feeling Zac will be.... The Autarch of Heaven and Earth. We have already heard rumors from Iz in book 10 where in Zac as he stood in the lake of the lost planes looking at the sky with his hair dancing wildly in an invisible wind... That he reminded her of "That Madman of the previous Era" a chaos cultivator... I wonder if we can get some side lore about this guy.. or if we will find out more as time goes on.

Jeff McCulley

Had another thought, from the discussion about “Half Step” D or C grade cultivators. I’m going to go out on a limb, and guess that while lower level people call those folks “Half Step Monarchs” and (likely) Half Step Autarchs… That the folks who actual Monarchs and Autarchs—and earned the title—often snidely refer to them as “Half Ass Monarchs” and Half Ass Autarchs. What are the odds? ;)

Jeff McCulley

Posted a full answer above, Mike.

Since someone asked, here’s the rest of the sealbearers. I went back and checked when they departed, Zac listed the sealbearers he was taking with him. The list I posted earlier includes everyone. So as badly hurt as Rhubat was, he’s presumably still recovering—or (hopefully) got an invite to the training center. The other two known sealbearers unaccounted for are Boje Zethaya, the (now) undead pharmacist or whatever, and Lissa, Carl’s wife. Lissa is another I’d expect to be at the training center, not sure about how Rava feels about pure crafters like Boje. It’s mentioned that Zac has two full cycles of deal holders, plus three spares. So, assuming that Kator (definitely) and Catheya (maybe?) don’t count, then there would be nine sealholders total still back in Earth/Ensolus. Six unknown. Oh, and I’m guessing Boje is the same pure noncombatant seal as Jaol and Ibtep—and thus one of the three “spares”. Er…not including the “spares” he hasn’t collected yet, like Thea, Everlasting Peace (probably) and eventually Ventus and Inda.

Jeff McCulley

I was wondering what life Zac is doing, too. Seems like it would be a waste of time for him to be sitting there next to Esmeralda, just twiddling his thumbs.

Chewbacchus

Also, you have a couple places where it looks like you have replaced / with spaces. One you have Vilari say 'and or', and another you have Gakau say 'block lessen'. The latter could be made more clear with an and in the middle

Chewbacchus

The section where Carl is recounting, the video has 'dias', should be 'dais'

liquid_helix

I don’t expect anything as I’m not writing the book. I’m lamenting that we have spent so much time with death Zac vs life Zac these past few months and I’m looking forward to a change.

SmokeJam

Well Life Zac is still with Esmeralda and will probably emerge when the frog gets what she came for. Don't know what kind of status update you expect, we already got to see them in action together and he is most obviously his trump card. Honestly the only part where I trust TFD won't throw in a curve ball unseen.

liquid_helix

That’d be interesting. We will definitely see for sure.

Palmer Evans

I doubt he’ll have to go back into hiding. Prob makes his move on Kator around the time that the Foreign Gods are released which would be right before Ultom. Once the trial starts, Zac and “Arcaz” will split up with different teams, right?

Mike Naka

I wonder where Rhubat is? The last we heard was that he was in a recovery pool. I wonder if Zac brought him along in a tank of some sort. I'm imagining it's taking him soo long to recover b/c it'll lead to a breakthrough which will give the Zhix a new path of advancement as he is the Chainbreaker. Hope TFD hasn't forgotten about him and just put him on the backburner b/c the Zhix would make a nice Royal Guard along with the Valkyries!

liquid_helix

I’d imagine he’ll emerge, but then will he go back into hiding? I’m hoping for a paradigm shift back to life Zac for awhile.

Palmer Evans

Prob when Zac decides to make his move against Kator

Telewyn

Hmm, 5 with Zac, 9 outside, 2 disqualified. If we’re splitting into groups of 5, I guess that means picking up a friend for one group? Team Catheya vs Team Iz, a race to reunite with Lord Atwood!

liquid_helix

Two things on my mind. What’s happening on the Iz front, and what’s the status of life Zac. Yes yes I know where he is, but we’ve spent a ton of time with death Zac as the protagonist. I’m curious when life Zac will emerge as a front runner again.

James Faulkner

Tftc!

Jeff McCulley

Maybe I’m missing something, but I’d think it would be at least a week for the baddies to get to where Zac & Co are. I mean, it took the Yphelion a month…

Jeff McCulley

Okay, here is how all of the sealbearers who came on the Yphelion with Zac are currently split up. Reminder, we don’t know if the others all got sent to the same place or not: The Split Up Zac—Flamebearer Ogras—Skybreaker/Hollow Court Emily—Lightbringer/Radiant Court Galau—Threadwinder/Daedalian Court Kator—Blooddancer/Indomitable Court *Elsewhere? Vilari—Soultaker/Anima Court Carl—Lightbringer/Radiant Court Ra’Klid—Reignender/Starfall Court Rhuger—Reignender/Starfall Court Catheya—Threadwinder/Daedalian Court Bubbur—Chainbreaker/Tethered Court Joanna—Blooddancer/Indomitable Court Kruta—Blooddancer/Indomitable Court Janos-Realmsinger/Mercurial Court *On Yphelion Ibtep—Plainswalker/Farsee Court Jaol—Plainswalker/Farsee Court

Jeff McCulley

Will post above. No duplicates, half a cycle.

Jeffrey Worrall

This is the only explanation I remember seeing for Half-Step Monarchs, not sure if the guys we are seeing are the same or not. Chapter 1161 "Their leader's aura even emitted a heavy pressure that reminded Zac of his spar with Pavina. The weight of a world. In other words, he had already taken the first step toward Monarchy by opening a proto-space within his Cosmic Core. Opening a proto-space wasn't the only path to the C-grade. One could even say it wasn't the right one, since it apparently limited the Inner World's size and potential. Furthermore, taking that step was irreversible. If this general failed to open an inner world within 1,000 years or so, the proto-space would collapse, destroying the Cosmic Core and taking his life. Despite the downsides, almost all Monarchs on the frontier used this method instead of the orthodox paths. After all, it split the breakthrough into two steps with a consolidation period between them, which drastically lowered the difficulty. And if you survived opening the proto space, you'd enjoy a millennia of Half-step power."

Collin Sorrells

I think we got a really solid explanation of what a half step D grade was back in the day..... I would like to know what a half step C grade is. A decent amount of people failing to form their core just die outright instead of even getting the opportunity to salvage something and be a half step D grade. I was surprised there was even half step C grades at all. I kind of assumed they would just die if their world failed to form. I would like a deeper explanation of how that happens and what their prospects are for salvaging themselves compared to a D half step.

William Keith

Yeah it’s not good for my blood pressure. I

Andrew

Thank you!

Telewyn

Kinda hoping Iz shows up and Carl goes “Great, there’s two of them”.

Telewyn

Did it separate the cycles? Does Zac have any duplicate seal bearers with him?

Tyler S.

Party split, and enemies on their tails. Who else is going down, and whos comming next to the party. Thanks for the chapter TFD

Rabauke

This whole arc is a hell of a ride and I need this to end. It's just to much up and down. I just need a good old adventure arc

Joey

Zac's going to devour all the corruption in the dimension
