Sean C Jackson

His father is a member of the Sindris clan, one of the founding clans of the technocrats.

Jawsus

Threr months late but back to the party, couldn't this just be Zac's literal ancestor? I can't remember, but didn't Leyara say something about Zac's dad being some rando, but it never got expanded upon?

Christian Schreiner

Great chapter :) thanks

Douglas Davis

No idea. I mean cool vision and all, but unless it has some bearing on the actual story I really don't care as a reader. It just becomes useless filler material. I just skim over it and wish the author poured more effort into advancing the story.

Johnny_B

I feel ya, a little context would sometimes be useful.

Cory Crowell

Me confused lol

Justin

Wow....

Tabais

Just curious are there any readers who actually know who all these names and factions are anymore? At this point I just skim all these side characters until I see a nam that sort of rings a bell

Kirin

Nah sounds more like the Dao restart/ era transition which was the reason the system was built, but not the cause of the end of the era, a distinction i think a lot confuses… the system brith cause a calamity yes but the era was already ending/ dao declining before that.

Kirin

Think you mean can’t, but something else bugs me, he only said space a few time and we were sure he meant space based on the context… think is he used void a few times as well, and sounds like it was maybe being utilized or cultivated some how, especially when he mentioned sealing the heavens.

Thomas Todd

I think they are called Void Heralds because they are the ones that can traverse space easily. I think it was said in one of the Karz visions

Luke Scheffe

Or this could be the first in a series, and he eventually ends up seeing her redeeming it. If the reward she chooses is something like a Dao/Law tapestry vision for herself, there’s no reason Zac couldn’t benefit as well.

Luke Scheffe

It could easily just be a space thing. They contain a massive amount of space, so they are like a void. Or it could be because at that point they can break space at will, creating a void. I doubt it’s actually anything particularly deep to it.

Lex Luther S

The seven heavens were not disgraced clans but clans and families under the rule of the true hegemons of the limitless empire, yesilo even commenting that they were just seen as servants when he was on that war fortress. They just saw the way the wind blew shortly after the system consumed the empires greatest generals and powerhouses and acted on it. They raided treasures and other innumerable resources before sequestering themselves in some sealed heaven or realm, later emerging after the dark ages as a powerhouse of factions.

Russ

Terea likely did not use the seal. It feels like we are witnessing the birth of the System, with the Dao and cosmic energy becoming sparse, and those working at the edges of the limitless empire also feeling the beginnings of the desolation.

Lex Luther S

The way he moved his daughter is likely something most monarchs can do. Especially given the sheer might a monarch burning their very soul and inner world can produce. Afterall tearing open space to the void is possible even for Zac let alone a monarch of his level. His feat is even more impressive considering how more stable space was before the systems rearranging of space caused more overlaps making it generally easier to to break space.

Surgebinder

Hope we get the stat sheet soon

Robert C

The loss of energy in the chapter was likely from the system awakening. "The Wendimar name had fallen so far it had long since been forgotten." Indicating they are not a clan at this time.

Jeff McCulley

I would assume that once Eonic Seeds were identified, that efforts were made to offer them opportunities, to nurture, encourage and avail their advancement. To strengthen the Empire, of course. Like with Zac’s Echelon class back at the Academy. Although maybe not as extreme.

John

“reporting to the Palace was also a method of informing the Empire that an Eonic Seed was rising” Super curious, whatcha mean here. I don’t remember learning a tidbit like that and must know everything there is to know about the Limitless Empire

Jeff McCulley

Wow. Just…wow. I’m trying to sort out all of the value of this chapter, the vision. Including whether the memory ends here…as it probably does. As usual, TFD offers us visions without offering the supporting context. Fair enough. Is the value merely Zac forging his core alongside another Eonic Seed the only value? A The first question, I think, is whether Zac’s actual surroundings were under similar attack as he was experiencing this vision…and whether the vision helped as his presumed companions fought them off? “Two paths converged, and a rain of hellfire became a rain of burning axes.” Did this happen innZac’s actual surroundings? Or, does this all happen as he sailed along the stream? Crazy thought. It would be hilarious if Zac now suddenly had the Dao of Fire. Empyrean is as Empyrean does. B Is there value in the “ancient-looking seal”? Could Xac somehow claim it? I think not, presumably Terea redeemed it already. Though knowledge of Limitless Merit in general may be of use? C. “Zac suddenly found himself trapped as a rune glowing with spatial energy appeared before him.” I’d wonder if there is value in this rune…but Zac doesn’t cultivate the Dao of Space? Then there are the hidden gems… D “Commander Andrak slowly nodded before taking out a chest rippling with foreboding energy. "I'll return this to you. You should understand its restrictions better than me." “Kristvan accepted his Master's creation with mixed emotions, finally understanding why the commander was acting so accommodating.” Welll…*I* don’t! Not fair! lol! “…he hefted a box that made Zac's senses scream of mortal peril.” Presumably the same box? “He felt his hands clasp as he deeply bowed in a ceremonial farewell.” Did those hands clasp around the box, or simply clasping in a ceremonial bow? I assume the former. But…were they merely Terea’s hands accepting the consignment of the box to her possession…or will Zac waken to find it in his own? Because there’s a LOT going on here with that box. Maybe he’ll just recognize it when he sees it again? Surely…it’s not the cursed box from the Perennial Vastness? The one last seen when Rava sealed it? Nah. Too easy. F. I feel like Terea Wendimar eventually became a significant historical figure. Er, assuming she had time before the birth of the System brought on the darkness. After all, reporting to the Palace was also a method of informing the Empire that an Eonic Seed was rising. Lastly… G. The ways that Kristvan used Void that Zac hasn’t seen HAVE to be of value. Like that seeming Void Teleport.

Bernhard

I think the problem is not the beginning of Ultom, the problem is the open story lines that the war arc left behind. The first chapter begins with Esmeralda's POV from entering the arena and a more detailed description of what it looks like. The second chapter is probably the first challenge in the form of the dream world and shines with the writing style that feels biblical and gives the world weight and color It's not really fluff, it's just pre chapters for the next arc and they're great. But I would have liked a few post war arc chapters first that would describe the outcome of the war and Zac's breakthroughbecause as long as that isn't finished, I don't care about the greatness of the left imperial palace and the heroic sacrifice of the father. but don't forget I'm not a successful author and there's no right or wrong way to do this and overall the story is great for me and I'm grateful for every chapter

DKR

Based on the context it feels like the system has already been activated since the Dao is failing. Would she find an Empire to cash it in with?

Jake Atwood

Can’t wait to see his stats after this I imagine his law alignment title got an upgrade but I bet there is a lot more I’m hoping faith gets involved somehow it makes so much sense for him to have faith somewhere in his cultivation

jb qspam

“made him detonate made him detonate” repeat “When did his daughter become so powerful?” I’d argue ‘did’-> ‘had’ sounds better.

Adam Fellon

It might be possible that everyone is getting a little something from the wisps. Since most of them are engaging with the wisps they may have a chance to earn both physical benefits and knowledge.

John

nobody likes a back seat driver, you don't even know the destination and you're already confidently giving opinions on whether or not the turn TFD made was right

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

The Lost Pages

I have read this chapter a couple of times. Definitely one of my favorites.

Enthoney

Nah, it’s just a chapter to wrap up his core upgrade and the soul wisp thing from last chapter

Rushin Lad

Considering this was at the beginning of the systems hoovering of the energy pre initiation, I bought it (assuming I correctly deduced the time period)

Jason Lynch

Fluff or not, these last chapters read like prologue to a new arc. Which makes sense at this time in the story.

Jason Lynch

Isn’t that basically the same thing? The dad even mentions specifically that their clan are nobodies now

micah wales

It would be nice to after a two month wait. He could release 20 more chapters like these last two and you could use those same types of arguments again and again. There’s no right or wrong answer some readers like the main arc and don’t care for some of the “fluff” chapters.

NiceTryMate

I don’t think it is stated why the names are what they are. My best guess is that the Void in Void Herald is related to the missing ladder connecting the inner world to the heavens. When they have a ladder, they become a Herald (Autarch)

Jeffrey Worrall

I don’t think so but not all of the royal families have been named. The rulers of the heavens weren’t disgraced, they were just nobodies during the height of the empire

Lex Luther S

Stalling in what way? How is one of the first trials of Utlom in any way or form stalling? Don't read the surface and delve deeper into this chapter. Zac just witnessed a Lord perfect her core over those 10 days. While also getting to work on his own core. Along with whatever other gains, he will be in far better shape for finishing his Late stage core than before.

Lex Luther S

Void heralds seem to be what they called monarchs back then.

Lex Luther S

Bro what are you on about? Do you want Zac to be dropped right into the trial, it starting right up? Ridiculous. Ignoring the fact zac and Co. already theorized the first TRIAL would likely be related to illusions, the vision he just experienced did a hell of a lot more than a fluff piece. Zac had the chance to remember the last 10 days a lord perfected her core. That alone is an invaluable experience for Zac but the biggest boon is the 10 days he had to work on his own core. This is a clever way of zacs core formation finishing far faster than originally thought and in far better condition after his thawing and gained experience from Terea. Now he might need some finishing touches but he's otherwise set. As for Mondays chapter. That gave context. On Esmeralda and her thoughts. On the greater tapestries of whatever insane goal and plan Laondio has been cooking up for billions of years. On what the trial grounds will or may look like. And on the direction draugr zac is going. Seriously every chapter does not need to advance the story or plot in some way.

Apex Southpaw

TFD is an amazing writer. The chapter was well constructed apart from a few small editing issues. However, it did not advance the story. In the overall scheme, we now know that Zac has spent a few days fixing his core. Combined with the fluff (well-written fluff!) that was Monday’s chapter, I’m concerned that TFD is finding it difficult to get this arc started. I have faith that he will get it back on track but this rocky start is concerning.

The Lost Pages

This was also the spirit / fate thingy that Leandra pushed his way before the break. It just entered him at the end of the last chapter.

Anders

I honestly don't know how you're able to publish chapters of this quality multiple times a week. Awesome chapter!

Andrew

Thank you!

Angelazreal1

Thank you

Omiso

In the previous chapter we saw Esmeralda riding Zac through the river of time, during the ride some of the "riders" split some by the Heavens hand others probably because of the interference of the Old Monster looking down on them. Zac and Arcaz split at behest of Esmeralda's "clue". That means Zac entered the river of time and this event is likely a memory that was hold in it (he came in contact with it last chapter). How will that affect the trial I have no idea but hey Zac got a second danger box and an Imperial rune it should help with the coming struggles.

Jason Lynch

I don’t have the memory of some. But I do recall that the 7 heavens are all ruled by former disgraced clans of the limitless empire. I am curious if one of them was Wendimar. I agree that this was a huge potential upgrade to his core but wonder if it is also a warning and/or name drop of the one of the 7th heavens as well

Stephen Taylor

I am definitely thinking he gets the merit, possibly because the daughter dies before she can turn it in. It will activate something critical 6 months from now. Or not. We will probably get clarity Friday.

Michael

So the box is probably an array masterwork from the limitless empire and Zac is definitely getting that somehow. Love a good foreboding chechov’s gun, Zac’s gotta blow up Ultom somehow. This whole scene felt very in tune with his path, I wonder if we’ll see any Dao improvements. A literal fight against the forces of nature where death is all but assured, and a father figure that uses his own death to preserve ‘Zac’s’ life. Gotta be worth a least a little inspiration.

Angelazreal1

I’m so lost. Who are these people?

Jacob

Do we know yet why they are called VOID heralds? Is this the same Void that Zac is using?

Tartlet

So like, is this warrior he shared memories of get to like… join Zac in the palace?

Jason Hatter

However, if the Merit is keyed to the System, rather than manually run, perhaps that can still be used.

NiceTryMate

This is the memory from the soul whisp that entered Zac’s head last chapter.

Steven McNeeley

I'm so lost. Who is Terea Wendimar? Did I miss a chapter? Why should we care about her?

Russ

I disagree. Zac is about to upgrade his core in a major way, and we are given a glipse of where he received the inspiration for this accomplishment.

Borbino the great

I really needed this today

Lex Luther S

Doubtful given it went to Terea. Unless she never got to cash it in and it somehow accompanied her into the afterlife and she passes it onto zac, there's even more doubt. Besides, not like that matters given the empire has long fallen.

The lord of chaos

This chapter kinda feels like stalling.

Lex Luther S

Got lucky indeed.

Lex Luther S

Facts. The sacrifice of a father to give his daughter a chance at survival. Literally read it a 3rd time and still got chills

Lex Luther S

Zac didn't see how his father died so it wouldn't really work. Though Zac has no doubt his pops would have done the same for him or his sister.

Jeff McCulley

Don’t think so. Because his dad’s death wasn’t nearly so meaningful. Just a bunch of greedy idiots.

Jeff McCulley

Wow, excellent! TFTC! So much to unpack. Back later.

The Lost Pages

I have goosebumps reading this chapter.... wow.

Krispy sock

I’m gonna need to read that chapter again, went right over my puny brain.

Lex Luther S

Ohhhhh so damn GOOD. TFD truly knows how to write a chapter because this was so good I'm no longer hungry. And this points to the greater reasons to cultivate and push yourself forward. Krisvan's sacrifice hits on a personal level I think many of us can understand. A father and his daughter, his child. What man wouldn't go to the ends of the earth to protect them? And Krisvan did so. To the end he held on as they worked on their core in unison. Which is the biggest gain here. The core formation of a pre-system cultivator with the genuine talent and path to become a perfected Lord is an insane boon for our boi fighting to finish his core. If he actually had 10 days to work on his core with Terea experiences meshing with his, then he's likely almost done with his core. And I'm willing to bet it'll be in an even better shape than before. I truly can't wait for Fridays chapter because this has me exceedingly excited for what's to come.

Timothy Dana

This is a great chapter. I wish Zac’s inner monologue made the connection his one fathers death. Maybe overlay the insight vision of Ultom with a flashback to his father dying during Earth’s intergration

Alexander Dupree

Oooof nice thanks for the chapter

Observer Whimsy

Fascinating chapter. Does Zac get to keep the Limitless Merit, i wonder?

Chemistrywarrior

Yessss, just in time. 40 minutes delay
