I agree! But we do kinda know why it shoots lightning. It is because of the law of balance. Cultivation goes against the four eternal laws: Impermanence, Truth, Cosmos and Balance. When Zac advances his core, he breaks the law of impermanence in a big way, stealing longevity. He probably also messes with Cosmos and Balance with his void shenanigans. This yields a strong lightning response. When he furthers his dao comprehension, he breaks the Law of Truth, stealing some for himself. The breaking of these four laws determine how severe the lightning tribulation will be. The lightning is the heavens way of maintaining balance, by smiting the law-breaking ant who dare cultivate :))

Douglas Davis

It would be amazing if at some point the books explained exactly what the Heaven's are. Sometimes they are written about as if they were an almost sentient AI like The System. Yet at no point in this entire series has it been defined as to what they actually are other than serving as a source of shooting lightning at people for advancing. And why they shoot lightning at you simply for powering up has never been explained either.

Silent Consent

The key point is imagine Zack having to flip his inside out self right side out.

Rid

It’s already been confirmed that the Primo was alive during/before the Limitless Empire. How else would they get the treasure from him hah

NiceTryMate

They definitely knew the LE was constructing the System. At least the people with political positions. Remember the memory domain on the beast head? Zac bribed the City Lord with pills without earthly taint, which is one of the properties of the system. The lord showed the pills to the population to enable his property scam. As for LIE, it is one of Eight pillars the LE constructed as a foundation. With them all constructed, they could bring the old heavens to their knees so that the system could take over some of its functions. Zac has recently realized that the void mountain was central in the construction. We don’t know if the empire used other realms/objects for the same purpose.

Gaige Bradley

My person opinion is that the primo is someone who was first alive and managed to make himself immortal or semi immortal using pure death somehow and was alive during the limitless empires era.

Gaige Bradley

No safe place than Zac's shadow indeed.

Mike Naka

Does anybody remember the reason for constructing the LIE? I can't remember if the average Imperial citizen knew the Emperor was constructing the System or if only the top factions knew. Like the people in these memory lanterns. Do they know they're constructing the foundation of the System, or do they think they're expanding the empire for empire's sake?

Arthur

It does seem like that, I've been reading the Ghosthound series and nearly every second book the MC is be trapped. It really pisses me off.

Jeff McCulley

Well, some of the Lower Planes are death related, like the Threaded Hell, or whatever it was called. I think we’re just getting a preview of how complex ALL of the Lower Courts are, largely because the Hollow Court is the one Zac is closest to. Well, the Mercurial is closer to Draugr Zac and Esmerelda, but they aren’t stopping to chat with anyone. Might want to rethink that. Or maybe rely on bumping into Janos?

Jeff McCulley

More like Esmerelda enters her Shrine, then Draugr Zac pops over to Human Zac. The problem being, there’s no return ticket.

Justin

Cannot wait for more!

Rid

Not yet, but “The Hollow Court is related to the Lower Planes, and the Margrave will give out a set of missions upon his arrival.” It was just surprising to me that it played such a large role since I was expecting it to be death or chaos related.

Seamus Harley

Fascinating theory

Silent Consent

Ha. Zack would toss Ogras in his void then turn himself inside out popping in too and out at his other body. It would be funny if they had to flip him right side in again.

Silent Consent

I don’t think the primo is a person, he isn’t a member of the devine races at least. Maybe he is from the lower realm? Or he might embody death as a physical being somehow.

Jeff McCulley

Maybe it’s something to do with the acronym for the Left Imperial Expanse being L.I.E.?

Jeff McCulley

They aren’t at the Hollow Court yet?

Jeff McCulley

Ogras in Ch. 1,271, right before the break: “I'd prefer to seize whatever spark that puts me next to the boss," Ogras grinned. "The opportunities would come on their own that way.” You got your wish, buddy!

FriendorFo

Would be pretty sick if instead of “fixing” the issue like he has in previous memory lanterns, Zac actually explodes/eats even more of the mountain range and region hahaha

FriendorFo

Right? But that’s what makes the mention of Margrave so interesting, particularly since the Primos relic is in the court that this guy is moving in on.

Rid

I wonder where the Primo fits into this lower realms aspect of the Hollow Court? Doesn’t the Primo practice pure Death?

Flameboy

Ugh I want more!!! Be Wednesday already!

Rid

I’m so excited for lore drop about the Hollow Court. With the memory domains and whatnot, I hope it’ll just be a matter of time till the Primo shows up! I want to know how/what was taken from him. Also love your comments, I always look for them haha.

MacMahon Wenzl

I think it the name has something to do with how the D grade is normally when cultivators can first interact with the void and not get their shiet kicked in. At least based on the info from the events at Twilight Harbour.

MacMahon Wenzl

Yeah I'm pretty confident trapping Zac in an energy dense area is a worse case scenario for the people trapping him, not the other way around. Remember in the Void Star? Val was like "what if we ge trapped" and Zac was just like "I'll just tear a whole in space, it usually works out that way"

NiceTryMate

Hello Mr. Wartorius :))

SandreX

Congrats man 🎉, Wish I could find too, but it has basically zero chance happening:/

EsoEasy

Twilight Ocean was my fav arc. I think this one has potential to beat it. It’s got the imaginative settings and plenty of loot so far. I’m just waiting for a bit more struggle and progression. Luckily those two usually go hand-in-hand. Very good so far.

SandreX

Zac has natural resistance to karma for various reasons, one of which might be what you mentioned, also his heritage form his mother. As for the last part, it's pretty obvious that system has it's hand almost every aspect of Zac's journey, but what if system generally sees using fate and karma as a medium and the reason why one of demon generals spawned on top of Zac was because he simply was impossible to see with systems usual sight? What if unawakened Zac was truly outside of entire cosmos? And system giving him cosmic energy allowed some sort of connection which in return connected him to karma.

Shivam

No the term Void Herald was first used by Karz when both him and Laondio were E-grade cultivators. It didn't originate with Limitless empire

SandreX

No worries Zac, as usual, will just blow the entire thing up :d

Jeff McCulley

I’m gonna go way out on a limb here, and say it originated with the Limitless Empire.

Jeff McCulley

Does “a share” mean “all of it”? Because I’m pretty sure that’s what’s gonna happen.

Jeff McCulley

Two quick references: “Serpico” generally means “anticorruption”—from the Seventies movie. “Margrave” is generally below “Duke”, but ahead of “Count”. So the Wendimar Clannwould be outranked. Also related to the Holy Roman Empire. I feel like this will wind up being tied to the Hollow Court when they get there, no?

Psykohamster

One of the characters has my last name. 😊

Lizy Flore

I fear this might be a trap… am I the only one and did I read too many fantasy where the protag ends up betrayed and trapped in dark caverns ? Also, this chapter was so good, I love zac and ogras sheneningans, I love ogras overall and I love political and historical intrigues, and so this stuff going on with the hollow court and the LE and Ultom… I just can’t. I’m in love.

Hartmann

It was actually referenced first in the second bloodline vision when Karz mentioned a Void Herald would come and test Laondio out

Jeff McCulley

Yes! I started laughing in delight about halfway through this! Yes, out loud. The schemer gets his scheme outschemed, lol! And then the young Whitecrest had to have totally crapped his pants when Zac pulled out the clan token… I mean, whether or not he’s actually a Whitecrest, or a random sealbearer with a Whitecrest brand just pretending!

Luke Scheffe

No, just that it was already in use by the time of the third bloodline vision.

MacMahon Wenzl

So I've been thinking. Back in the Tower of Eternity when Zac faced that troll who used Karma magic, the troll said "why are you immune to the pull of fate". If Zac has 0 affinity to all Dao but has affinity to the Void of all Dao, does that mean Zac has affinity to the Void of Karma? Would that mean that his high luck let's him tap into normal Fate and Karma magic but otherwise he is a natural repellent or destroyer of fate because of his connection to the Void of Karma? Also, if all other cultivators have some connection to all Dao, just at different levels, that means all are in some way connected by the Dao of Karma? Meaning all fates are tangential to each other through their connection to the Dao of Karma? All of those who are more gifted in the Dao naturally have greater fates because they have a slightly higher connection to the Dao of Karma? Is this why Zac can subvert fate, not because he stole the providence of two sectors and has high luck but because he has access to the Void of Karma? Would this also mean that at the very beginning when he rolled for survival he would have won regardless of what he rolled, because no matter what, he would naturally subvert all Fate due to his connection to the Void of all Dao and the Void of Karma?

Jamarr

Gotcha, do we know where that ancient title originated?

Robert Robinson

It was what pre system people called Monarchs

FriendorFo

Old term for Monarchs

MacMahon Wenzl

Who knows.

Omiso

Zac has slayed enough arrogant young masters to know how to act like one.

Jamarr

What are "Void Heralds"?

The Lost Pages

Hahaha Ogras, ypu brilliant fiend. He knows that it is calmest at the eye of the hurricane known as Zac.

Mike Naka

Love the Zac & Ogras team ups! Wish there was one with Carl. That'd be a fun set of chapters! Yup, I'm still underestimating Ogras and prolly Catheya. Good on you Ogras...keeping all stealthy and un-noticed by Monarchs. Really dig the lore TFD drops from time to time. I'm one of those junkies that wishes there was more! LOL Kinda like an Ender's Shadow fan fic of what's going on with the rest of the team. Man...if this is D-grade shenanigans then I can't wait to see what kinda crazy crap TFD is planning for Zac when he's a Monarch. Hope this arc tops the Twilight Ocean. I'm pulling for ya TFD!

Craig

Am I reading this wrong or did Zac just negotiate the void treasure into his hands? “...Also, I get a share of any materials that are deemed useless for the Hollow Court.”

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Lex Luther S

Well well we'll how fun it is seeing zac play the "Arrogant young master" for a change. And he won't be face slapped either lol. Even more interesting is leaning about the Hollow court and the ones in charge, seems they're gonna make BIG on this, I can feel it. I must say though, ogras certainly has come a long way, to think that once unimpressive scion of a weak D grade clan would be able to reach such heights as to hide from even Monarchs. His growth in strength and skills as an assassin to become zacs shadow is one of the better parts of the series. And he is indeed right, there's truly no safer place than zacs shadow; afterall, it is the eye of the storm lol.

Ryan Pepp

Here we go!
