"Janos looked at the countless thread stretching into the horizons in awe" - threads?

Bailey Tucker

2) Please don't sacrifice Janos, he's been through so much already 😔

Bailey Tucker

1) I LOVE TFD's ability to make side or tertiary characters feel important and real, and the similar ability to make it feel like stories are getting cut off in the middle. Everyone is the main character of their own story, and Zac is the anti-author ending everyone else's.

Wesley

He really does excellent character development, and it's only gotten more profound as time has gone on

1FantasyFanatic

I love how TFD’s characters have their own beliefs, goals, and missions in life.

Lucas Gulick

So pumped for todays chapter! I normally hate it when the MC loses all their powers, but this is epic!

Dan

Ohh. Interesting.

Dan

It’s definitely the first time he’s really had any really understandable motivation since, I think, the beast tide way back in like, book 2?

Dan

It is a possible past/future. If he had noticed the PV token just a second later he would have been forced to become draugr only. I think because he’s been cut off from his other side, he is only seeing his Draugr side’s possible futures/memories. And those of any Memory Lanterns he has picked up. (Draugr side only)

Dan

The Zac we are following is dZac. When he entered the silver mist on the gondola he was cut off from hZac and is seeing the possible futures of his draugr side and (it sounds like) any memory lantern identities . I do think we get an Everett chapter before a shift to see what’s happening with hZac.

Jeff McCulley

This? “Beauty—by human standards—and pedigree is a deadly combination,’ Esmeralda urged.” Remember, Esmerelda doesn’t know about Zac’s own pedigree/bloodline. Pretty sure Karz ranks higher.

Jeff McCulley

Nah. He’s going to bring her out. Then Instructor Rava will have a nice chat with Her about her unbalanced build.

jsw

I could see it going either way. But I think she just might have something to teach Zac about how to use those high strength attributes.

Porter

Does she have something to teach him? The direction this is going, Esmerelda being wary, I think them fighting and blowing things up is more likely.

jsw

What's the over/under on Zac creating a wooden statue of Astora Theomore after this is over?

Porter

Yup. I'm ready for the next!

Jeff McCulley

Kind of curious as to whether we get a POV shift here, or Zac dealing with Everit’s issues.

Jeff McCulley

“and it didn’t stop at the strength of his isolated Draugr form” So……both human and Draugr?

Robert C

In the flood of altered memories, Zac only spotted the Perennial Vastness token a second later than in real life.

Robert C

I think hartman below is correct. Author confuses it with the purifier. In original timeline, he saw the purifier, grabbed it before it went in spatial tear, then jumps in same tear. In the alternate timeline, he says he saw the token just a second later than in the original.

Jeff McCulley

Generally, that’s surviving a tribulation.

Jeff McCulley

If the Lord of the Threaded Hells was recorded here, I hardly doubt that a record of Karz might also be tucked away somewhere.

Jeff McCulley

Well, either he was confused, or he was illustrating the degree to which these illusions twist things.

Jeff McCulley

It wasn’t a memory, it’s an illusion based on a memory—then he was flooded with memories supporting that illusion.

Jeff McCulley

“The Zenith is coming, you might have another chance” “That could be millennia, I might not last that long.” “Isn’t Zac Atwood your boss?” “Oh, so the Zenith is next week? I’m good then!”

Hartmann

I think the author confused the purifier Alea consumed during the destruction of the Harbor and the perennial vastness Token he got from reyna

DKR

I think all of them are altered memories, it was just a bit confusing at first, which is probably the point. I had to go and confirm it was the reward for coming in 1st place in the twilight ascent, cause I though I was misremembering it myself, then kept reading and realized that was intentional.

Robert C

What is with the first memory? He saw the perenial vastness token? I thought Evening Tide Asura gave it away. I dont remember it floating through space

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

MacMahon Wenzl

There's almost no doubt in my mind that they knew and just didn't care. They probably thought that by "digging in the dirt" they would only find Gold, not realizing that they would unearth a huge mound of White Truffles.

MacMahon Wenzl

Something I'd love to see before the inheritance is over would be Karz. Probably somewhere near the end, when everyone gets brought together or there is a large gathering and Karz just appears for a second. "A strange man with bronze skin and golden eyes stares Zac down while everyone freezes in place, unsure of who or how powerful the newcomer is." Then Karz just disappears, everyone goes back to what they were doing like nothing happened and everyone except Zac and Ogras seems to have any memories of who they saw and what just happened. It might mess with the cannon and lore but having Karz and Zac have passing contact bridging the ages would be cool. The only reason Ogras keeps his wits is because he has truly touched upon cultivating the void. Maybe even Carl remembers Karz, but that would more just be because of Carl being Carl. It helps bring some more of Zac's secrets to the surface while restricting who would be aware that there are even secrets to be had.

Summas76

God, Janos is such a baller. Played one hell of a game. Legend

Jeff McCulley

He’s talking about the Heavens being aware, so that likely just means that Janos is going to undergo a tribulation. And if Ogras found hinky ways to survive his in the Perennial Vastness, I’m sure Janos can as well.

M💬

TFD has always done a great job with his characters and although Janos has been in the story since the start this is the first time I feel his conviction as a character….. just amazing

Palmer Evans

This chapter is proof TFD’s writing is as strong as ever

Borbino the great

I don’t think he’ll die I think he’s got some plan to use Zak’s penchant for chaos to break reality and overlap his dream overtop

Michael

I think this is end of Janos, but the beginning for Anson

DrSubterfuge

Can't really hide the underpinnings of the trial from a Supremacy, especially not the guy who in this continuity probably oversaw the creation of the domains.

pizzadahuttt

Wtf

Jeff McCulley

Y’know, maybe it’s just me, but…Zac lying to powerful people, and doing it both so baldly and so badly, seems like it’s going to come back and bite him on the ass at some point. He’s been doing it at least since the Everfast (?) Monarch, after escaping the Centurion Base, and they keep letting it slide.

Andrew

Thank you!

Lizy Flore

No no no no no no no NO NO NO. Absolutely not. I refuse. If Janos dies I’m going to lose it. I want him happy, stable and married with his VERY REAL wife. ALIVE. IN THE At. EMPIRE. The fact that he sees Zac as his emperor gives me hope that he remembers he has people he can count on. Oh please I’m begging anyone who has power over the story. Don’t let him die for his dream (though I agree that would be a very good ending for his character - as a writer that’s what I’ve done with some of my characters). (Yes I’m aware that logically no one of the main cast died yet and that the author doesn’t do dramatical scenes of sacrifice BUT I’m functioning on emotions rn). Also, Grand Dream is aware of the trial huh ? I’m curious to know how he circumvented the rules…

Jason Ruddy

I was just wondering the same thing. Especially with the sacrifice for equilibrium comment.

Omiso

He must have heard Carl's Preaching so he too is beginning to believe in their Lord abilities for mayhem.

DrSubterfuge

Sounds more like he's betting on Zac being chaotic enough to make his plan actually work. Not sure what's going on with the grade regression, but since he's blaming Everit I'm guessing he's in an alt timeline based on Everit's life

Omiso

Wow this chapter has been a rollercoaster of emotions, one moment Zac is safe only to get into danger the next, then safe again and Astora getting closer the next. I hope Janos makes it, though it sounds coming out of this mess will come at a steep price.

Jean-David Morel

Did Janos just throw Zac under the bus while saying "he'll be fine"?

Lex Luther S

Ohhhh, janos. Welp, to the end of the dream, unto a lifetime with his wife, embrace your end with a smile, ye shifting illusion of a demon. Still though, wonder what mess zacs alter ego, Everit Draom got him into this time. Especially for it to be severe enough to see zacs entire cultivation base start to drain. Certainly, it's not permanent, but it can't be ideal in such an environment. Welp, here's to Wednesdays chapter

Lucas Gulick

Woo! Two days, two chapters - good treat

James Getgood

wooooo
