Skipped this chapter

Bootsie Mcfootsie

This is utterly skippable.

Kirin

Loved this chapter tho, good old school rough and tumble, brought me back to fight barhgest… yeah spelling is probably wrong😅

Sean C Jackson

I believe he does have an editor they just only work on the material for the book releases.

Steph

This isn't the story of Everit, it's an illusion of an alternative timeline of Everit where he's crippled.

Jeff McCulley

He’s mixing g “bled like a stuck pig” and “leaked like a sieve”—the latter usually applying to boats.

John

Back when Zac needed his enemy to get wedged into a tree so he could finish it off? Good times

Jeff McCulley

I can tolerate this. I’ll just hope that A. There is a valid reason for it, and B. It’s over quickly.

Jeff McCulley

I’d be happy to volunteer. After all, courtyards don’t have walls.

Johnny

It’s cause we’re used to Zac being elite and now he’s getting pressed by E grades and it’s jarring. Surprised more people aren’t struggling w/this…hadn’t he already had to fight as a mortal enough? (In several diff books) Hopefully this powers him up enough where nothing, illusion or not, can seal any of his power away

What? TFD says this week is possibly a 4 chapter week. He has not come out saying either way for this week so it's either we get a 4th chapter or not after Friday. Whether that's Saturday or Sunday is up to TFD of he does release a 4th chapter.

MyseriousMage

No we are only getting the normal chapters this week. In the delay announcement post TFD said the replacement for missing Wednesday was tentatively scheduled for Sunday with a possibility of turning this week into a 4 chapter week. As in we either get a Sunday post with a normal week of posts, OR no Sunday posts and a modified 4 post schedule for the week. At least that is how the post reads to me.

Lex Luther S

This is clearly an Everit before he went on his training mission and was chosen for the mercurial court. Maybe in the real timeline, the criminals he killed and that crippled him got away or maybe he had aide in some way that made the fight easier and less costly, either way, it's clear there's a reason zac was thrown into this specific timeline of Everits and not somewhere else and man I'm exceedingly curious what the plot is.

Lex Luther S

Given the way this trial is running and the potent strength of the Peregrine Ocean, its clearly possible even alternate timelines might be able to be tapped into and used.

Lex Luther S

No, the one Sunday was for the fact we missed Wednesdays chapter. TFD said in the post he may do 4 the following week, this week, so again, fingers twisted for a 4th chapter.

Lex Luther S

It's important to note esmeralda said even a supremacy would get marked from a dip in the Peregrine Ocean so this ocean is an insane object with an insanely potent power. Which explains why even this alternate reality is so realistic despite it being an illusion.

Lex Luther S

I don't see the issue. It's an illusion and clearly a part of a bigger picture. Time will tell. Hell, it might even help zac take the next step for his Earthly dao of defiant war, given he's experiencing a struggle even he hasn't experienced in a long time.

Lex Luther S

There's a reason an E grade cultivator can't have earthly Daos and Late stage daos for their grade is the limit. Late stage fragments for F grade. Late stage branches for E grade. Late stage Earthly daos for D grade. It's all about the strength of their soul as well as likely an immutable law of the multiverse. Even a non soul cultivator has a stronger soul upon reaching the next grade and each level seems to compound to more soul strength, though not nearly as potent as a genuine soul cultivator. With zacs cultivation crippled and soul cores barely a shadow of what they once were, he can't bring forth the Earthly daos, even though they're still "attached" to his very being.

Lex Luther S

Do you seriously think TFD won't continue to use that? He's used "eyes thinning" for years despite "eyes narrowing" being better grammatically, and that's only one example of TFDs quirks with his writing. It is best to accept it if you see "bled like a sieve" again in the future unless he ever gets an editor to properly edit the chapters before they go out.

DagNabItAll

We got one on Sunday to make up for the missed on last week, so itl only be Friday like usual.

Owen Stevens

clearly we are dealing with more than a simple illusion, Evidenced by the invasion of the lost plane and the need to send sealbearers to enact roles in situations that didn't happen. Esmeralda already mentioned that alternate realities don't actually exist in that traditional sense. But you would really be splitting hairs if you claimed that Zac isn't completing a trial based on a potential alternate reality. Besides, an alternate reality can exist hypothetically and still be called an alternate reality. Just my two cents on semantics

Owen Stevens

well sure - an illusion of an alternate reality. My point remains the same

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

David Ballantyne

Please don't make bled like a sieve your new phrase. It's not a saying and it doesn't make sense either in general or in the way you use it. Firstly, sieves are not known for bleeding. There IS a phrase: leaking like a sieve, but it's used when something is leaking from many holes, you know, like a sieve has, so it doesn't make any sense even if you use the correct version to describe someone bleeding from a single wound. If you want a phrase, bleeding like a stuck pig would make more sense.

Taylor Greenwell

I don't think so. Being a mortal doesn't mean he can't cultivate without the system, Zac cultivates by using treasures and reforming his body and uses external resources to create his cores. But, the system makes it infinitely easier with the titles that he has and by creating opportunities for him to secure the resources he needs to progress. If he didn't have the system, he almost certainly would not have progressed as fast as he did and the system has given him a ton of personalized help. He likely would not be a standout if he had been born in a pre-system era, but not nothing. He would still have the void emperor bloodline and his sylvari constitution which are the things that make him exceptional among mortals.

Andrew

Thank you!

Jeff McCulley

Please pardon me if I laugh when Zac/Everit runs into a botanist named Um’Ha, who takes pity on him and takes him home to see if her thaumaturgr hubby can help. For that matter, I’m half expecting a past version of Instructor Rava, just before she became an Eternal Servant, to be chilling here somewhere. Maybe at the Templar Council, at the Radiant Court?

Pascal Kwizera

Soul cores are shrivelled. So he can't use daos.

Dylan Alexander

So what what we’ve found out is that without the system, Zac is nothing?

jack

Yeah I'm struggling with this. Pretty much skimmed the chapter after I saw crippled. Coming from reading Savage Divinity a few years ago I'm tap out for a minute.

Jeff McCulley

Exactly the point!

Jeff McCulley

No. It’s an illusion, not an alternate reality.

Grant Prater

Says the mortal

Unlisted Pokémon Hudson

Actually thought I got it for a second

Unlisted Pokémon Hudson

Bruh my internet is trash

Jason Hatter

He doesn't have any ME, that's part of cultivation too

Harley Shockley

The thing is, Zac is mortal. He literally can’t cultivate without the system. He can cultivate his body, soul, and heart, but he can’t do spiritual cultivation. The “levels” and cores and meridians. He doesn’t have any of that.

Owen Stevens

I don't think so. The Peregrine Ocean connects to alternate realities like the ones Zac faced last chapter. I truly think this is a reality where everet draom was crippled. I think that by fixing it, Zac will make the memory worth more when "harvested" to fuel the main timeline

Tartlet

So his cultivation is ruined, but like, why does that mean he can’t use dao? I thought dao used mental energy, not cosmic?

Tartlet

Oof, so awkward

Rayyyn

Oooh! I love arcs like this!!

Dylan Alexander

I don’t think that’s true, the system streamlines cultivation and makes it easier but it isn’t the source of cultivation. Cultivators existed long before the system.

Orims

The problem is without the system he is litteraly incapable of getting any energy to his body or even posses any daos.

Johnny

I hate protagonist power-down arcs…not complaining per se, I’m sure it’ll be an interesting series of events and has a purpose, just already miss the cool abilities. Even in like, say, Smallville when Superman would lose his powers for an episode I’d be like “ok is he back to normal yet???” Having to function like a mortal sucks

Omiso

I'm thinking this is the moment Everit changed his fate and Zac was send there to improve what Everit did in order to forge a Greater Fate with the Court and not end up death in some random spawned catacomb/trap where Zac found the lantern. A true timeline change instead of a borrowed identity.

Omiso

Time to live the story of Everit Daom lean how he ended that way, get a treasure or two and maybe get enough insight to prompt an upgrade to his Dao of Sealed Death. All while changing the timeline in the process just another day in the life of the Deviant Asura.

Lex Luther S

Interesting. Maybe this is why Everits' memory lantern was so bright and "filled" with potential. This alternate timeline Everit has some piece to play in a puzzle so intricate, even the super AIs of the technocrats would be left dazed. Still, though, it will be a true tightrope of life and death that our boi zac hasn't walked in a long time and might even become the catalyst for his Earthly dao of defiant war to breakthrough and I can't wait. Two more chapters this week so hopefully we find out by then. Well, hopefully two more. TFD did say it was a possibility for 4 this week so fingers twisted.

Jeff McCulley

Not!

Dylan Alexander

Maybe he need me to learn not to rely on the system like the cultivators of old?

Porter

Well this is a little new. Reminds me of how far Zac has come. Those months living in the camper seem like so long ago. I mean to me. This is one long story.
