How about a fantasy setting where your character and the listener are training to become knights\mages. They are rivals (in a non-combative way) and they grow to find they respect each other. Until it turns into a crush and their rivalry becomes more about impressing the other one than just being the best.

You know how cats always seem to belong to the villains in movies and cartoons? I think you could pull off a villain cat character. Maybe one that plots to hunt and capture his Master's enemy or someone that they know is giving their master a hard time. And when they capture them, there is some kitty torture (some smergling, nibbling, and rubbing against areas that know will be pleasure/torture).
