I think Will’s biggest thing is not wanting to make his mom more worried than she already is and turn her into more into a helicopter parent and not so much that she wouldn’t understand but that she’d try to protect him instead of just being someone to listen to him and someone he can confide in

I think Joyce and Hopper both grew up in Hawkins. I guess Hopper moved to the city to be a cop and came back when his daughter died, because it might have been to much to handle.

Yeah I think they said this way back in season 1, episode 1 or 2 when they had the search party looking for Will. And then it’s implied that after Sarah died him and his wife got divorced and he moved back to Hawkins.

also about the joel/ellie parallels, hoppers daughters name was sarah which was joels daughters name. and the new “daughter figure” for both joel and hopper are named el/ellie, and they both have a special ability!

I think it's suggested that Hopper grew up in Hawkins but moved to the big city as an adult.
