More The Moon
🕑 Added 2026-01-06 03:06:19 +0000 UTCIt’s everywhere, this moon. It’s taken over the whole island. Everybody’s going out to see the moonrise.
Greetings from Waiheke.
“‘O all the world is a little queer, except thee and me, and sometimes, I wonder about thee.’ I know about me. I am the moon’s sister, a tidal child stranded on land. The sea always in my ear, a surf of eternal discontent in my blood.” (Keri Hulme).
Late last night, after dinner and rehearsing, Big Oneroa Beach, 10:50pm.
We swam out into the phosphorescence. My love for this place and for these people is vast.

Oh I love you, little island.

Love Keri Hulme. Just finished rereading the painful but beautiful The Bone People

I'm so happy you're back in Waiheke! I recall your time there with such fondness. (Easy for me to say, I realize; I knew you were in pain, but unaware of its depth.) Even though I've been your patron since 2016, it was during 2020 & '21, in Hawke's Bay and especially in Waiheke, that I first felt I got to know you, nearly as a friend.

Nothing better than swimming naked in the phossies! It's such a rite of passage here, it took me a long time to realise that not everyone has this in their universe/experience. Utterly sublime. Also, I've just accepted that I won't make the show tonight. Just not well enough 😔 have a blast 💚

"The moon is no door. It is a face in its own right, White as a knuckle and terribly upset. It drags the sea after it like a dark crime; it is quiet With the O-gape of complete despair". (Sylvia Plath)

Love this. Everybody is a little queer in the undertow. It’s hard to swim straight when you’re surrounded by waves. 🌊 ❤️
