EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Backtest: Bar Open or Bar Closed?
🕑 Added 2025-11-13 16:50:23 +0000 UTCJacob dives into the ATR backtest: should the bar be open or closed? https://youtu.be/d4DueND9yJ0
Core Idea:
Always use bar close for signals and backtesting because it reflects the only moment you can reliably act after the candle finishes and avoids constant fakeouts that happen intrabar.
📌 Bar Open vs Bar Close (Super Tight Summary)
Bar Open
Unrealistic: you cannot reliably buy at the exact open of a new bar unless you are watching the charts like a hawk across different timeframes.
Bar Close
Candle is finished → signal is confirmed + stable.
Realistic execution: alert fires at bar close → you act immediately.
Backtest accuracy matches real-world behavior.
Might give up a bit of price, but avoids fakeouts → safer + more odds of winning.
Timeframe Note
Daily is great, but zooming into 12-hour or 6-hour gives even cleaner direction changes, letting you act earlier while still using bar close confirmation.

Hi - just signed up to Patreon membership. How do I get hold of the IA-ATR-MODEL to add to Tradingview ?

Another super clear and helpful video Jacob. I had come to the same conclusion regarding the settings from my own research but it's comforting to see alignment with your approach. Cool mini demo zooming in on the candles and drawing the differing trade outcome - simple but crucial principle to understand; visuals make it stick. Love your content🙏

I think couple days ago, James flagged ATR model just triggered a buy signal on the daily for Bitcoin with accuracy about 86%. I bought more IBIT n BITU afterward, but didn't pan out. Does anyone know why it failed with that high % of accuracy?

This is an important lesson! Remember it by remembering Alec Baldwin's famous GlennGary Glenn Ross movie quote, "Always Be Closing"
