One thing I miss about painted cel animation is dry-brush smears. So I'm going out of my way trying to mimic that digitally. Worth the effort.

Animation stages 3: Ink and Paint
After I'm satisfied with the pencils I do ink and coloring.I use a brush I customized, giving it a rough texture that's akin to the xeroxed cel look in older animation. I love that look and wanted to replicate it with my animation.

After I'm happy with the poses, I add inbetweens and lip movements.Clip Studio doesn't let you audio scrub, so I have to rely on looking at the sound bars (and playing it back over and over) to get the lip movements. I think this actually benefits me, since it doesn't let me go overboard...
